October 1, 2007, Princeton, IL- The North Central Illinois Council of Governments (NCICG) is pleased to announce that five area communities were recently notified they received Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP) grants administered by the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. These approved Public Facilities Component grants were written and submitted by staff of NCICG in February 2007. The projects are as follows: The Village of Diamond will receive $350,000 to be used to replace undersized and deteriorated water mains in a targeted area of the Village. The Village of Manlius will receive of $325,000 to be used to construct a central sanitary sewer system. This large scale project will alleviate long-standing problems with the Village’s private sewage disposal systems. The Village of Ohio will receive $350,000 for a water treatment systems project. The Village has elevated levels of arsenic in their drinking water supply. This filtering project will bring their systems in compliance with IEPA guidelines for public water supplies. The Village of Seneca will receive $292,365 to extend municipal water service to the currently unserved Wildlife Mobile Home Park. The water supply that serves the residents of the Park is severely deficient in many ways including having high levels of radium, inadequate storage, undersized mains and only a single well. This project will bring those residents a reliable safe source of water. The Village of Tonica will receive $350,000 to be used to construct a new elevated water storage tower, to install filtration for arsenic removal at one of their two wells, and to add telemetry and controls necessary for connecting the new tower to their system. NCICG is a non-profit regional planning agency located in Princeton, Illinois that has been providing planning, technical assistance, and grant writing services to counties, townships, and communities since 1978. NCICG was formed to maintain the uniformly rural and small town character of the region, to strengthen the capacity of local governments in the North Central region, and to provide information about and access to state and federal programs through a program of intergovernmental cooperation.
